Räude beim Hund: was ist das?
Räude ist eine parasitäre Hautkrankheit, die sich unter anderem durch Papeln auf der Haut sowie durch starken Juckreiz bei Hunden äußert. Sie wird durch einen Befall mit bestimmten Arten von Milben ausgelöst und ist äußerst ansteckend.
Wie kommt es zu Räude beim Hund?
Es gibt eine Reihe von unterschiedlichen Milbenarten. Neben vergleichsweise harmlosen Grasmilben können Hunde zum Beispiel auch von den für das Erkranken an Räude verantwortlichen Räudemilben befallen werden.
In den meisten Fällen handelt es sich dabei um die auf Hunde spezialisierte Art Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis. Darüber hinaus können aber auch die auf Füchse spezialisierten Räudemilben Sarcoptes scabiei var. vulpes bei Hunden Räude verursachen.
Weibliche Räudemilben graben in der Haut ihres Wirts kleine Gänge. Dort ernähren sie sich von Keratin sowie Gewebeflüssigkeit und legen dann schließlich ihre Eier ab. Aus diesem Grund sind Räudemilben auch als Grabmilben bekannt.
Weibliche Grabmilben legen im Verlauf Ihres Lebens ungefähr 50 Eier. Die Milbenlarven schlüpfen bereits nach wenigen Tagen und leben dann zumindest vorerst ebenfalls in den Gängen in der Haut des Hundes. Männliche Räudemilben halten sich hingegen in flachen Gängen oder auf der Oberfläche der Haut auf. Nach erfolgter Fortpflanzung versterben sie.
Die drei Entwicklungsstadien der Räudemilbe
Der Lebenszyklus der Grabmilbe dauert etwa drei Wochen, in denen die Parasiten alle drei Stadien ihrer Entwicklung durchlaufen. Zunächst schlüpfen sie als Larven aus den Eiern. Dann entwickeln sie sich zu Nymphen und schließlich zu adulten Räudemilben weiter.
Im Gegensatz zu den in der Erntezeit durchaus lästigen Grasmilben, bei denen nur die Larven parasitär leben, verbleiben Räudemilben während ihrer gesamten Entwicklung auf der Haut des von ihnen befallenen Hundes.
Hunde mit Räude sind ansteckend
Leidet ein Hund an Räude, kann es sehr leicht passieren, dass die Grabmilben beim gemeinsamen Spielen auf einen Artgenossen übertragen werden.
Allerdings können Räudemilben in abgefallenen Hautschuppen auch ohne Wirt rund drei Wochen überlegen. Zum Teil erfolgt die Infektion daher auch durch Grabmilben, die sich auf Oberflächen in der Umgebung des Hundes befinden.
Können Hunde Menschen mit Räude infizieren?
Gelegentlich werden auch Menschen von Räudemilben befallen. Allerdings sind die entsprechenden Arten nicht auf Menschen spezialisiert und vermehren sich daher auf diesen auch nicht.
Aus diesem Grund kommt es im Normalfall nur zu leichten Symptomen, die nach rund zwei Wochen wieder abklingen, ohne dass es dafür einer gezielten Behandlung bedarf.
Wie erkennt man Räude beim Hund?
Je nach Schwere und Dauer des Befalls mit Grabmilben, äußert sich die Räude bei betroffenen Hunden durch verschiedene charakteristische Hautprobleme in unterschiedlich starker Ausprägung.
Leidet Ihr Hund an Räude, kann sich das durch folgende Symptome äußern:
- Rötungen
- Pusteln
- Papeln
- Krusten
- Verhornung
- Haarausfall
- Schuppen
Meist sind es vor allem der Bereich um die Augen, die Ohren sowie die Ellbogen, der Bauch und die Sprunggelenke, an denen die genannten Symptome bei Hunden mit Räude auftreten. Bleibt eine zeitnahe Behandlung aus, dauert es jedoch nicht lange, bis sich die Probleme mit der Haut weiter ausbreiten und sich der allgemeine Zustand des Hundes zunehmend verschlechtert.
Das liegt zum Teil auch daran, dass Räude zu einem starken Juckreiz führt und erkrankte Hunde sich dementsprechend häufig kratzen und lecken, wodurch die bereits vorhandenen Hautprobleme noch weiter verstärkt werden.
Wie wird Räude beim Hund diagnostiziert?
Ein Hund mit Verdacht auf Räude sollte unbedingt von einem Tierarzt untersucht werden. Nachdem zunächst andere infrage kommende Auslöser für die Hautprobleme wie Allergien ausgeschlossen wurden, wird der Veterinär eine Hautprobe nehmen. Diese kann er auf adulte Grabmilben sowie Larven, Nymphen, Eier und Milbenkot untersuchen.
Da sich auf diese Weise nicht immer eine eindeutige Diagnose stellen lässt, kann es sein, dass zusätzlich auch eine Blutuntersuchung erforderlich ist. Bis der Körper eines an Räude erkrankten Hundes Antikörper gebildet hat, dauert es jedoch mindestens 14 Tage.
Hinzu kommt, dass nicht jeder Hund Antikörper gegen Räudemilben entwickelt. Es kann daher durchaus vorkommen, dass keine sichere Diagnose möglich ist und der Veterinär den Hund auf Verdacht gegen Räude behandelt. Ob seine Vermutung richtig war, zeigt sich dann spätestens, wenn die Medikamente wie erhofft anschlagen.
Wie wird Räude beim Hund behandelt?
Es gibt zahlreiche unterschiedliche Mittel, mit denen Räude bei Hunden behandelt werden kann. Dazu zählen zum Beispiel Spot-ons mit verschiedenen Wirkstoffen wie Selamectin oder Moxidectin, Injektionen mit Ivermectin oder auch Amitraz als Waschlösung.
Je nach Stärke des durch die Räude verursachten Juckreizes kann es zudem sein, dass der Tierarzt dazu rät, den Hund zusätzlich mit Glucocorticoiden zu behandeln.
Unabhängig davon ist es sehr wichtig, dass die Behandlung so lange fortgeführt wird, bis die Räudemilben beim Hund komplett beseitigt wurden.
Behandlung aller im Haushalt lebenden Hunde
In Anbetracht der Tatsache, dass Räude sehr ansteckend ist, genügt es nicht, die Behandlungsmaßnahmen auf den betroffenen Hund zu beschränken. Darüber hinaus müssen auch alle anderen im Haushalt lebenden Vierbeiner behandelt werden, um eine Übertragung der Räudemilben zu verhindern.
Davon abgesehen ist es wichtig, das Umfeld des Hundes einer umfassenden Grundreinigung zu unterziehen. Dabei sollten vor allem die Pflegeutensilien sowie der Schlafplatz des Vierbeiners gründlich gesäubert werden. Andernfalls ist es sehr wahrscheinlich, dass der Hund schon bald erneut an Räude erkrankt.
Ist Räude beim Hund heilbar?
Im Normalfall stellt die Behandlung der Räude beim Hund kein allzu großes Problem dar. Allerdings ist es sehr wichtig, den Räudemilben möglichst frühzeitig entgegenzuwirken. Andernfalls leidet der von Räude betroffene Hund nur unnötig lange und die mit dem Milbenbefall verbundenen Beschwerden lassen sich zunehmend schwerer beseitigen.
Kann man Räude beim Hund vorbeugen?
Leider ist es nicht möglich, Räude bei Hunden mit hundertprozentiger Sicherheit zu vermeiden. Dennoch gibt es einiges, was Sie tun können, um die Wahrscheinlichkeit eines Befalls mit Grabmilben zumindest deutlich zu reduzieren.
